I am a Clinical Psychologist and AHPRA approved supervisor with over 25 years of experience providing psychological services. I established my private practice in 2005 providing psychological support for individuals and families during the Perinatal period and Children and Youth, as well as training and superivision for health professionals.
In 2025 I established "Carla Anderson Clinician Training", an education and training business providing non-clinical services focused on psychoeducation and training for healthcare professionals. The psychoeducation and training business was designed to provide high quality, evidence-based educational content to healthcare professionals.
I offer many years of experience and training with my passion with the perinatal period beginning in 2001 as a volunteer peer support and group coordinator with the Qld Postnatal Depression Association, whilst completing my psychology degree and becoming a mother. Through this I became a volunteer bereavement phone counsellor for Bonnie Babes Foundation, before becoming one of their honorary national trainers, training health professionals in perinatal loss support skills. Early in my career as a psychologist I worked in Child & Youth Mental Health and Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault counselling services, before establishing my private practice in 2005. Since then I have gained extensive experience in perinatal mental health training, conference presentations, podcasts and media interviews for a range of topics related to the perinatal period including:
Perinatal Mental Health
Perinatal Grief and Loss (including co-developer of Perinatal Training Centre's) Grief, Trauma and Attachment: An Integrated Approach to Perinatal Loss)
Birth Trauma
Fertility
Perfectionism in the Perinatal Period
Pelvic pain
Training for Midwives and Child Health nurses in Perinatal Support Skills,
Self-Compassion for Health Professionals
Floriful Workshops: Combining Floristry, Selfcare and Mindfulness
I have published research in the Australian Psychologist on Pregnancy-related anxiety; Re-examining its distinctiveness.
As a supervisor and trainer, I enjoy supporting supervisees and trainees through the development of their skills and confidence with working in the perinatal period, holding in mind attachment, developmental and relational frames, with a focus on reflective practice.
I also recently completed my Certificate III in Floristry gaining my qualification as a florist and was introduced to therapeutic horticulture and the benefits of using flowers and psychology together. I am a registered member of Therapeutic Horticulture Australia, and have been utilising these skills through groups and training for professionals.
